FLEX is highly-competitive exchange program across 22 countries. In 20-21 Applications cycle, over 4000 people have participated in Uzbekistan. However, only 37 of them became finalists. I was one of 2 people selected from my region.

Firstly, in order to become a FLEX finalist, you need to have all qualities that a potential exchange student needs. You need to be disciplined, open (the point of going on exchange is to try new things), outgoing, hardworking, persistent, mature, good at English and most importantly-flexible.

Secondly, you will need to complete 3 competitive rounds:

1) 3 essays and your application

2) an English Proficiency test

3) a bigger English Proficiency test, a bigger application (including medical forms, agreements, teachers and counselors evaluations), 3 essays in 40 minutes and an interview with American Councils Representative from Washington D.C.

The whole application process was stressful and exciting for me, as I thought that I will succeed. I tried to be as open as possible, showing my real interests and why am I good type of student to go on exchange. It was also important that I'd be very honest and myself. The interview was the most interesting part for me, since I could show my personality through the answers, ask questions and just have fun with the interviewers (I met them in real life after my exchange year, and they told me how they are still amazed by my open-mindedness and positivity, since I also showed them my awards during the interview).

So be honest, be yourself and just have fun with the application. Believe in yourself and you will definitely achieve everything you want.
